Dr. Laurence Hewick

Chairman Sustainable Development Program

Professor Hewick is Chairman of the Sustainable Development program at Alma Mater Europaea University. He has been a visiting professor, of business and economics, in Moldova, Romania, Bolivia, Slovenia and Croatia and taught for 20 years in Canada. Dr. Hewick has spoken at 39 international economic development conferences in 14 different countries on various aspects of sustainable development. He has been honored by Florida State University (USA) as their “Distinguished Alumni for Business and Industry”, Wilfrid Laurier University as ‘Alumnus of the Year’ and by the Ontario Government (Canada) for his transformative impact on public-private partnerships.

Dr. Hewick is joined by the following distinguished international academics: Dr. John Maclachlan, Dr. John Boake Danquah, Dr. Rodrigo Perez, Dr. Marius Mensah, Dr. Jason Brodeur and Mag. Mauricio Medinaceli. Together this team of Sustainable Development professors have published over 160 journal articles and spoken at dozens of international conferences. The international academic team originate from 5 countries out of Europe.

The program duration is 20 months, with four five-month semesters. Graduates of a four-year undergraduate program may receive course credits, potentially shortening the program. The first two semesters focus on lectures, discussions, and online activities. The third semester offers internships with leading sustainability organizations in the EU. The final semester is dedicated to the master's thesis. Completion of nine mandatory courses, three electives, and the thesis is required. Elective courses cover diverse aspects of sustainable development. Students can explore courses from other master's programs. The thesis involves research or a 30-50-page sustainable corporate transformation plan. Intensive five-day sessions take place in coastal Slovenia, Vienna, and Maribor. Students present their work, conduct research, and interact with sustainability leaders. Alma Mater encourages thesis publication.

The degree obtained upon completion of the program is Master of Sustainable Development.
